This is our very first event on Lopez Island, a 30 square-mile oasis of farmland and forest and free-grazing sheep. The island is a nod to the past, where everyone knows everyone and even those who don’t know you will give a wave as you pass them on a two-lane road. Flint Beach Ohana Farm is keeping the agricultural history of San Juan County alive with their large flocks of pastured sheep for meat and wool and free-range laying hens. Returning guest chef Nick Coffey’s restaurant is just ten miles up the road. Chef Nick’s Ursa Minor is famous for its obsessively seasonal rotating menu, changing daily if not throughout the day to adjust for what’s available on the island. You can expect the same emphasis on locality in the field kitchen. Prepare for a feast of uniquely Lopez-local ingredients – from oysters, blackberries and salmon, to cattails and reindeer moss. Plus plenty of Flint Beach pastured lamb, of course.
