Our first event of the season features 83,000 acres and a castle. It’s a great honor to be invited to set our table at the historic Hearst Ranch – one of the largest coastal ranches in California and among the very first ranches in the United States. Views will include the castle, the vast Pacific and rolling hills of green grass dotted with cattle. Hearst Ranch beef will be on view and on the menu, accompanied by Hearst Ranch wines. Grapes for Hearst Ranch Winery are grown a few miles inland from the castle in a 90-acre vineyard in the Paso Robles appellation. Winemakers Jim and Debi Saunders will bring a few bottles up from the tasting room, located down the hill in the seaside village of San Simeon. In the field kitchen is OITF founder Jim Denevan and the traveling OITF culinary crew. The extraordinary beauty of Hearst Ranch is the result of dedicated and thoughtful land stewardship. Since 1865, the Hearst family has worked to protect this working landscape and its conservation values: agricultural productivity, biodiversity, and scenic vistas and coastlines.
