What was once known as The Valley of Heart’s Delight (now Silicon Valley) lives on at Jacobs Farm at Martial Cottle Park, where we’ll set our table along rows of ripe red cherries. Established by Edward Cottle in 1864, this land has been farmed by his descendants for more than a century. For years, the Cottle-Lester family withstood the pressures of urban development and turned down fortunes offered by developers. Instead, in 2014 the family donated the land to the State and County for development of a public park that educates visitors about the agricultural heritage of the Santa Clara Valley and preserves the land for future generations. The fun and fascinating farm tour gives a good picture of how the valley used to be. Our friend Greg Rawlings grows organic fruits and vegetables on the property. Jacobs Farm and OITF have a lengthy history with more than 15 seasons of collaboration. OITF favorite chef Jonnatan Leiva returns to the field kitchen. Jonny will serve up the delicious food he’s been making for San Franciscans citywide, and give us a glimpse of what’s on the menu for his upcoming brick-and-mortar place in Berkeley, Edel.
