Lowry Ranch is 25,000 acres of stunning grasslands just southeast of Denver. Ten thousand of those acres are Piedmont tallgrass prairie, one of the largest contiguous tracts of native prairie in Colorado. These rangelands used to be the Lowry Bombing and Gunnery Range, until a 1990s land swap transferred the acreage and placed them in the care of the Colorado State Land Board (CSLB). Through an adaptive management plan, on-site ranch manager Nick Trainer rotates cattle frequently among numerous small pastures, allowing for focused livestock grazing and maximum rangeland recovery. These practices have led to a wider variety of plant species, improved habitat for native wildlife, and greater ecosystem resilience. Nick will tell us about the benefits of adaptive planned grazing and how it works. Chef Byron Gomez will tell the tale of Lowry Ranch on the plate. Byron honed his culinary craft in several of Manhattan’s most famous Michelin-starred kitchens, including Cafe Boulud, Atera and Eleven Madison Park. After spending a winter in Aspen, he decided to make the Rocky Mountains his playground. Come have some fun.
