- Matt Millea Outstanding in the Field
This Outstanding in the Field documentary has been in the works for many years, so we are thrilled to host the L.A. premiere of the film in partnership with our friends at L.A. Times Food Bowl, Presented by City National Bank — alongside a long table, of course. Man in the Field: The Life and Art of Jim Denevan profiles OITF founder Jim Denevan, his trials of growing up in a turbulent family dynamic, and the artwork that came of it, both in his geometric land drawings and table-to-farm dinners through Outstanding in the Field. To celebrate the film’s release, we’re setting the table at the illustrious Sepulveda Dam in Los Angeles — the scene of a lantern-lit 2019 dinner featured in the film. The Sepulveda Dam was originally built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to help the city withstand winter flooding. Now it’s part of a beautiful restoration of the L.A. River watershed, including community green space, parks and wildlife preserves for Angelenos to gather and connect.
For this unique event, Outstanding in the Field’s own Matt Millea will cook up hearty passed appetizers during cocktail hour, followed by an art and dance performance in collaboration with Jacob Jonas The Company. Next up, take a seat at the table and enjoy a two-course meal featuring peak-season produce from local farms and other delectable edibles before we screen the film from our seats. After the screening, stick around for a vibrant panel discussion with OITF founder Jim Denevan and filmmaker Patrick Trefz, moderated by Dr. John Osborne.
We are proud to partner with our friends at L.A. Times Food Bowl, Presented by City National Bank for this event, benefitting the L.A. Food Bank!
