An OITF x àplat Collaboration

This limited edition plate carrier was made in collaboration with àplat — a female-owned, sustainably-minded business in San Francisco — and launched with maker Shujan Bertrand at our November 2021 dinner at Heath Ceramics in Sausalito. It’s made with extremely durable 100% certified organic cotton duck canvas in a beautiful “honey” color exclusive to Outstanding in the Field. Each tote holds up to six 12” plates or a single baking dish — and the ergonomic design with center-based handles prevents any spillage when carrying, making it the perfect accessory for dinner in the field (or a holiday potluck).

Dimensions: 15″ x 15″ laid flat, 13″ straps
Color: Honey
Made in San Francisco

About the Maker

Based in San Francisco, Shujan Bertrand is an advocate for sustainable local manufacturing, local organic farms, and food producers — and donates 1% of profits to environmental and non-profit organizations.

Through àplat, she aims to grow awareness for more responsible and sustainable designs and move the textile industry in a more environmentally friendly direction. As part of that mission, she partners with sustainable companies and organizations that care about both people and planet. In 2020, Shujan was recognized by the Industrial Design Society of America for donating 20,000 of àplat’s origami masks to frontline workers during the pandemic.

After 20 years as an industrial designer in Silicon Valley, Shujan started àplat in 2014. The name is inspired by her life in San Francisco and France.

Àplat is a play on words in French:

à plat = a dish
a plat = flat
aplat = solid color swatch
[àplat – word play, combining a dish with color swatch]

Shujan Bertrand joined us on November 13, 2021 at our long table dinner at the Heath Ceramics factory in Sausilito, CA for the official launch of the collaboration. This beautiful photo of Shujan was captured by photographer Melissa Fuller.

The dish tote measures 15″ x 15″ when laid flat. The 13” straps are sewn in load-bearing areas and reinforced with bartack stitches. Height of handles is 4.5″ from the center opening of the tote. A custom 1.5″ square logo adorns the corner. All totes are handcrafted and sizing may vary slightly.

100% certified-organic heavyweight cotton duck canvas produced from environmentally friendly fabrication methods using sustainable fibers and low impact food-safe dyeing methods. No use of hardware, plastic or toxic elastic. Designed and made in San Francisco, California, with zero byproduct waste.

The plate carrier does not come with a plate.
